Rivendell is renowned for its beautiful, rambling cottage gardens. Established over the last 30 years, secret pathways meander through enchanting individual zones, hidden from the gaze of diners on the deck above. They are a horticultural haven for adults and secret garden wonderland for children searching for hidden treasures and lost elves.

Discover the herb wheel (the source of many of chef Sven Hug’s flavours), a parterre of more formal floral plantings and high, manicured hedges concealing even more private botanical wonders. Seats encourage quiet contemplation and small sculptures and fountains hiding amongst the foliage add a Romanesque stature to some gardens.

Meander through plantings of aromatic rosemary and purple lavender, and luck upon a secret garden of heritage roses, behind the stunning Lilli Pilli hedge. Relax on the leveled, manicured lawn area, also used for wedding marquees, summer concerts and sundowners and the perfect children's play area. There is even a small orchard of Fig, Apple, Pear, Plum, Citrus and rare Lemonade trees. The gardens also provide a delightful outlook when enjoying a sundrenched lunch or Rivendell’s famous home preserves and a Devonshire tea
al fresco, on the deck.
